NEW BRITISH STANDARD:BSEN 62305; Protection against Lightning
The New British Standard on Lightning Protection – BSEN 62305 – Protection against Lightning
The Amendment No. 1: 2005 is specific to manufacturers whose materials and components need to comply with the requirements of BSEN 50164-1 and BSEN 50164-2, now agreed as the European Standard. For designers and installers, leading experts from 28 countries, have developed a new Standard over a period in excess of 20 years, within the technical committees of both the IEC (International) and CENELEC (Europe) to produce BSEN (British Standard European Norm) 62305 – Protection against Lightning. This will be introduced as the new British Standard during a 2-year transition period, where it will be run in parallel with BS6651, until approximately August 2008 and thereafter will become the only accepted standard in the UK. BSEN 62305 is compiled in 4 distinct parts and whilst complex in content, has addressed in far more detail the risk management aspect and consequences of lightning, the various levels of protection to be considered, the design requirements to comply with the Standard as well as the zonal protection of electronic and electrical systems within the structure. Delta International has remained at the forefront of introducing and implementing new standards for 30 years and within the Delta Group, Redford Delta and Osborne Delta will ensure that they continue to meet their Clients’ needs, during and after this transition period, by providing technical assistance in the design, sourcing, installation, commissioning and certification of lightning protection systems in compliance with these requirements. Our designers and installers will have the necessary training, expertise and competence to traverse this transition period and continue to provide a professional service for our valued current and future customers throughout this specialist industry. As this new Standard does appear to be daunting, our engineers welcome your questions which we will gladly answer to ensure that this transition can be as smooth as possible.
