Hull Royal Infirmary - Emergency Stabilisation and Temporary Protection Works to the external surfaces
The Brief
As part of the Hull and East Yorkshire NHS trust, Hull Royal Infirmary is one of the biggest Trusts in the country with over 6,000 employees. There is a £250m programme of investment which will see new state of the art facilities built and complete refurbishment for the others. 
Delta’s brief centred on the primary 13 storey Royal Infirmary building. Standing at 57m or 187ft tall it is completely clad in mosaic tiles. However, the durability and integrity of these tiles had become compromised and as such it began losing its tiles, posing danger to the general public, hospital visitors and staff alike. The brief was to make the site safe until long term repairs could be carried 
out.
The Delta Difference
A protective scaffold at ground level had already been put in place by a local contractor. This extended around the full circumference of the building and it was from here that Delta began their work. 
At ground level, a safety exclusion zone was erected around the perimeter of the building. This enabled Delta operatives to access the full height of the building using rope access techniques and conventional powered access platforms. Using these procedures, a temporary retaining mesh was installed to remove the immediate hazard of falling debris.
As the hospital was a working site, utmost sensitivity was employed by Delta’s operatives to ensure that patient dignity was maintained and minimum disruption was felt throughout the works period.
